At before 12.30am on Sunday, police were summoned to a home in Tallaght’s Rossfield Estate (5 September). All three patients—two kids and a teen—were eventually declared dead after being transported by ambulance to Children’s Health Ireland (CHI) in Crumlin.

Additionally, a teenage girl was transported from the site to Tallaght Hospital with critical but not believed to be life-threatening injuries.

The Garda Armed Support Unit arrested a man in his early 20s at the site using non-lethal weapons. In accordance with Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act of 1984, he is currently being held at the Tallaght Garda Station.

The mother of the children was also brought to CHI and is still receiving medical care despite not being hurt at the scene.

According to the Gardai, all parties involved are thought to be acquainted, and police are not searching for any other suspects in relation to the event.

The Tallaght Gardai have set up an incident room, and a senior investigative officer is in charge of overseeing the investigation of all the circumstances.

The location in Rossfield Estate is still off-limits, and the Garda Technical Bureau will conduct a forensic investigation there on Sunday. Both the State Pathologist’s Office and the Coroner’s Office have been notified. Additionally, postmortem examinations will be performed.

In cooperation with other state agencies, the Garda Siochana announced that it has hired a family liaison officer and will continue to support individuals impacted.

The Tallaght District uniformed unarmed Garda first responders rushed to what officers described as a violent, difficult, and upsetting situation. They were assisted by uniformed members, armed detectives, and members of the specialised armed support team.

All of the officers who responded to the event will now have access to welfare support, according to An Garda Sochána.
