According to the California Highway Patrol, a deadly wrong-way crash shut down a busy San Diego freeway during the morning commute on Friday. A head-on collision between a black truck and a red car closed the westbound lanes of state Route 52 just east of Interstate 805 around 2:45 a.m. At 6 a.m., the lanes were still closed.

A person was killed in a wrong-way crash on State Route 52 near Kearny Mesa on Friday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Around 2:45 a.m., a black truck was traveling on the wrong side of westbound SR-52, just east of Interstate 805, and collided with a red car.

A wrapped body was discovered alongside the road. Because of the crash, officials have closed all westbound lanes of SR-52 between I-805 and Convoy Street while they investigate. The road closure remained in effect as of 6:45 a.m.

According to CHP, the driver of the red vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The person in the black truck’s condition is unknown at this time.’

The accident necessitated the long-term closure of all westbound SR-52 lanes just east of I-805. According to the CHP, westbound SR-52 at SR-163 was also closed.

According to the CHP, traffic is being diverted off the freeway at Convoy Street and SR-163. A SigAlert was issued, and traffic was backed up all the way to Kearny Villa Road. At around 6 a.m., delays of about 30 minutes were expected.
