Speaking on behalf of the Ada County Sheriff’s Office, Andrea Deardon told the Idaho Statesman over the phone that there was a complaint of a shot being fired on Friday night at the Western Idaho Fair parking lot. The sheriff’s office tweeted that a struggle at around 9:45 p.m. left one person with a knife wound and another with a “accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound.”

Police said that during the altercation, one individual was reportedly stabbed, and another appeared to have been inadvertently shot by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

According to Orr, the police have found the gun and the gunshot victim is currently receiving medical care.

People fled the altercation as sheriff’s deputies rapidly closed up the parking lot and fair gates, according to the tweet. Orr estimated that the shutdown lasted for 45 minutes total. Deardon claimed that the altercation resulted in a code red warning being sent to fairgoers. 

They couldn’t get off the fairgrounds. Deardon clarified that there was no active shooter scenario. Deardon told the Statesman that while the department is searching for a suspect, they want to make sure the environment is safe.

The tweet announced that the fair’s parking lot and gates had reopened. No one has been detained, Orr informed the Statesman. Some of the fighters have been found by authorities, but not all of them, according to the tweet.

Some of the participants in the battle have been found by deputies, but not all of them. There does not appear to be a current active threat to public safety, according to a tweet from ACSO.
