A multi-car collision on I-5 in Tacoma early on Tuesday morning resulted in three injuries, according to troopers.

All southbound lanes of Interstate 5 in Tacoma have been shut for hours due to a midnight collision involving four automobiles.

Around one in the morning on Tuesday, a collision involving three vehicles and a motorcycle took place near south 56th Street.

The southbound lanes were still closed as of 7:10 a.m.

The three vehicles involved in the collision matched the description of vehicles spotted racing prior to the collision, according to Washington State Patrol Trooper Robert Reyer.

The 57-year-old motorbike rider, the 32-year-old motorcycle passenger, and the 19-year-old driver were all rushed to the hospital with critical wounds.

According to Reyer, the crash site spans nearly a quarter of a mile in the southbound lanes.

Traffic was being detoured at S 56th Street in Tacoma as of 5:45 a.m.; the route is anticipated to reopen in one to two hours.
