More than 12 hours after a man lost his life when the vehicle he was driving collided with the central reserve and caught fire, the M18 near Wadworth in Doncaster is still closed. According to authorities, a lorry that struck a central reserve on the M18 and caught fire killed a guy in his 60s.
M18 crash at Doncaster
Yesterday, Monday, August 15, about 5.10 p.m., South Yorkshire Police were summoned to the collision between junction two with the A1 and junction three of the highway.
The driver, a guy in his 60s, died at the scene after the truck caught fire.
All drivers are being informed so they can plan their journeys accordingly at this time
M18 closure: Overnight close the highway in both directions.
Roads policing officials have notified and are assisting his family.
On Tuesday morning, police inquiries were still being conducted.
National Highways announced that the road would be blocked overnight in both directions owing to a “severe collision” that involved a vehicle crossing the central reserve, and South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue confirmed that firemen were on the site.
A representative for National Highways said: “Police investigations continued overnight, and National Highways is warning drivers to expect some delays throughout this morning’s peak travel times after car retrieval and debris removal.
“The fire-damaged southbound roadway is undergoing emergency resurfacing work, while lane two northbound is still restricted for ongoing barrier repairs.
Drivers will face minor delays because a southbound diversion is in place via the slip roads, however lane one is now open northbound.
The completion of the repairs is not anticipated until at least lunchtime.

At around 5.30 p.m., a collision happened at junction 2 close to Wadworth in Doncaster.
“We now have teams on the site dealing with a lorry fire on the M18 near junction 2,” South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue wrote in a tweet.
Please be aware that the road will probably be closed overnight in both directions while we deal with this situation, and avoid the area if you can.
At the site, one witness claimed to have seen the lorry “blow up” in front of him.

Alternative routes were advised to drivers due to doncaster crash today
According to National Highways, a “severe collision” caused the closure of the road.
According to a spokeswoman, a significant incident has caused the M18 in South Yorkshire to be closed in both directions at J2 near Doncaster.
“South Yorkshire police are leading the reaction at the location together with all other emergency agencies. Due to the seriousness of the tragedy and the lengthy duration of the investigation and recovery efforts, the route will remain blocked over night.
Additionally, it stated that there were 45-minute delays northbound with traffic backed up to junction 1 and 90-minute delays southward with congestion backed up to junction 4.

Closures were being put in place by traffic officers to direct traffic to the exit and entry slip lanes.
Alternative routes were advised to drivers.

On its website, Traffic England stated that tomorrow, August 16, between 11:00 and 11:15 was the anticipated time for the event to end.
