
Several hours have passed since the M6 reopened after a fatal crash on the highway. Since five in the morning, the southbound lanes of the motorway between junctions 32 and 31, close to Preston, have been closed.
Drivers are being urged to choose an alternate route due to the present diversion in place. Due to the same incident, access to the M6 via the M55 is also blocked.
Following an incident that is thought to have only involved one vehicle in the early morning hours, police reported that a driver had passed away.
Lancashire’s M6 closed
The M6 southbound in Lancashire has been closed between junctions 32 (Broughton) and 31 (Samlesbury) this morning due to a significant collision.

The highway is expected to be stopped for several hours while authorities investigate the event. Diversions are in place through Preston.
The event is believed to have occurred shortly before 5 a.m. The #M6 is closed southbound between J32 and J31 in #Preston due to a significant collision, according to Highway England North West.
The same incident has also stopped access to the M55.
What exactly happened in the M6 Collision?
The M6 was stopped for several hours after a sad crash in which one person perished. The southbound M6 between junctions 32 and 31, near Preston, has been closed since 5 a.m.
Diversions are currently in place, and drivers are being directed to another route. Access to the M6 via the M55 is also closed due to the same incident.
According to authorities, a driver perished in the early hours of the morning in a single-vehicle accident.
“The M6 remains closed on the southbound side between Broughton and junction 31 at Samlesbury following an incident in the early hours of this morning,” a spokesperson said (Sunday).
“We are still on the scene doing investigations.”
“Please avoid the area and use alternate routes if at all possible.” We will keep you updated as soon as the highway reopens.”
Updates on M6 Lanes
All southbound lanes of the M6 have reopened, although considerable delays are still expected.
According to the traffic monitoring website Inrix: “On the M6 Southbound between J32 M55 (Broughton Interchange) and J31 A59 Preston New Road, there are severe delays and queues (Samlesbury).
“Congestion on routes via Garstang and Preston as traffic avoids or is diverted due to the closure. The travel time is around 2 hours and 15 minutes. All lanes are now open again.
“Sensors indicate that the road reopened around 14:05 this morning as a result of an overturned car.”
The M6 between junctions 32 (Broughton) and 31 (Samlesbury) is being reopened after being closed for nearly nine hours for investigation work following a serious collision. The stretch between 31A and 31 is currently open, and the rest will be available soon. Drivers were redirected through Preston, causing delays of up to two hours.

The investigation into the serious incident is still ongoing, and the M6 Southbound remains closed. Long delays are to be expected, and drivers are still advised to follow the present detour.

“Following an earlier collision, the route remains restricted for accident investigation work. The M55 Eastbound between J1 and J32 of the M6 has also been closed to allow for recovery operations. Traffic is moving slowly as it is diverted to the M55 and nearby roads.
“Diversion – via roadside solid square diversion symbols.”
There are reports of slow-moving traffic on the M55 right now. There are still detours in place.

“Since 05:00, the road has been closed. The M55 Eastbound between J1 and J32 of the M6 has also been closed to allow for recovery operations. Traffic is moving slowly as it is diverted to the M55 and nearby roads.

“This is in response to a serious road traffic collision.” Lancashire Police are on the scene and in command of the situation.
“From the spot, police are expected to undertake a crash investigation, and the closure is expected to last at least until the morning.”
“Please be advised that the M55 connecting road to the M6 southbound is closed.” Traffic should exit the M55 at J1 and take the diversion route outlined below to rejoin the M6 at J31.
“The M55 to M6 northbound connecting road remains open.”

The solid square diversion signals on traffic signs should be followed by drivers.
- Exit the M6 at J32, Blackpool, and merge onto the M55. M55 J1 is the exit. Take the first roundabout exit, A6 Preston, in Broughton. Turn left at the A6/A5085 interchange (M6 South).
- Continue on the A5085 until you reach the A59 roundabout. Take the first exit and continue on the A59 until you reach M6 J31, Tickle Trout.
- Take the second exit at the first roundabout, M6 South, Birmingham.
- Take the second exit at the second roundabout, M6, The South, Birmingham.
