According to a social media post made on Friday, August 5 by actor-talent manager Annabelle Rama, award-winning character actress Cherie Gil has passed away. She was 59.

Following the confirmation of the award-winning actress Cherie Gil’s passing by coworkers and a family member on Friday, tributes poured in.
Cherie, known as “La Primera Contravida” in the Philippines for playing famous villains in films and television shows, died at the age of 59 following a battle with cancer.
Cherie passed away at roughly 5 p.m. (Manila time), or 5 a.m. in New York City, according to her manager Annabelle Rama. Cherie relocated to New York City in February of this year.

Sid Lucero, an actor and Cherie’s nephew, later confirmed the news of his aunt’s departure while paying tribute to the seasoned actress on Instagram.

She was sighted in New York sporting a shaven head.
