In an automobile accident on Wednesday (local time) in Indiana, Republican lawmaker Jackie Walorski and two members of her staff died. US President Joe Biden expressed sorrow over their deaths.
The Elkhart county sheriff’s office reported that Walorski, a Republican who served as the second congressional district representative for Indiana in the US House of Representatives, was travelling in a car with the other two people.
According to the sheriff’s office, Walorski, 58, passed away as a result of her wounds. Emma Thomson, 27, a district director for Walorski, and Zachery Potts, 28, another district director, were also killed, the statement continued.

Edith Schmucker, 56, the driver of the second vehicle, was declared dead at the site, according to the report.
Walorski’s office released the following statement to confirm her passing: “Dean Swihart, Jackie’s husband, was just told by the Elkhart county sheriff’s office that Jackie was died in an automobile accident this afternoon.”

She was raised in her hometown of South Bend as the daughter of a meat cutter and a firefighter, and she has dedicated her life to serving the people there as a journalist, nonprofit leader, state legislator, and, for the past nine and a half years, as a member of Congress.
Walorski lived throughout her life in Indiana, as stated in her official biography. She served as the top Republican on the subcommittee on worker and family support and on the House ways and means committee.
In the overwhelmingly Republican district, Walorski was running for reelection this year to serve a sixth term. She was active in Congress on topics related to agriculture and food policy, frequently cooperating with opposing sides. She co-chaired the House Hunger Caucus and co-introduced legislation with Democrats to revive a White House symposium on food insecurity from the Nixon period.

The families of her staff members Zachery Potts and Emma Thomson, who died while working for the government, as well as the residents of Indiana’s Second District who lost a representative who was a member of their community, received heartfelt condolences from Vice President Joe Biden.
