How Did Tipperary hurler Dillon Quirke Die?

After becoming unwell during a game, Tipperary hurler Dillon Quirke passed away at the age of 24.

Last night, a Tipperary hurler who had collapsed during a game at Semple Stadium has passed away. In Thurles on Friday, just before halftime, Dillon Quirke (age 24) was carried off the field on a stretcher.

During Kilruane MacDonaghs’ County Senior Hurling Championship game versus Clonoulty Rossmore, Quirke was competing for his club.

Quirke was evacuated from the field and sent to the hospital, where he eventually passed away. The game was called off at that point.

Tipperary GAA has cancelled every game scheduled for this weekend’s County Hurling Championships out of respect.

In a statement, Tipperary said: “Tipperary GAA offers Dan, Hazel, Shannon, Kellie, and the larger Quirke family its deepest condolences.

“Also, condolences go out to the Clonoulty Rossmore GAA Club and his teammates on the sad and untimely demise of Tipperary hurler Dillon Quirke, a native of Clonoulty Rossmore.

Tipperary hurler Dillon Quirke cause of death

On Friday night at Semple Stadium in Thurles, Dillon Quirke was competing for Clonoulty Rossmore versus Kilruane MacDonagh in a Senior Hurling Championship match.

He fell to the ground just before halftime.

The game was called off as a result of the event, and he got medical assistance on the field before being transported by ambulance to the hospital.

Sadly, the 24-year-old was tragically declared dead on Friday night.

All of the games scheduled for this weekend have been cancelled out of respect, according to the Tipperary GAA.

Dillon fell unwell during the County Senior Hurling Championship game on Friday night between Clonoulty Rossmore and Kilruane MacDonaghs at Semple Stadium. He was brought to Tipperary University Hospital in Clonmel, where he passed unexpectedly.

This evening, the Board released the following statement: “The Tipperary CCC has chosen to cancel all games this weekend within its purview in light of the unfortunate demise of Dillon Quirke from Clonoulty Rossmore. The Quirke family and the residents of Clonoulty Rossmore are sent their sincere condolences by the Committee.”

After a successful league season, Quirke was a crucial member of the Tipperary senior side in 2022, lining out in the Munster Championship.
