Tekla Juniewicz, a supercentenarian from Poland, is the oldest individual ever to have had their age verified by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). She was the first verified supercentenarian to achieve the ages of 112, 113, 114, 115, and 116 in the country of Poland. After Lucile Randon, she was the second-oldest validated living person in Europe and the entire world at the time of her passing.
Since the end of the Second World War, Juniewicz has resided in Gliwice, Poland. Juniewicz was born in what was then a part of the Austro-Hungarian empire (what is now contemporary Ukraine). Since Jadwiga Szubartowicz passed away on July 20, 2017, she had been the oldest person still alive in Poland.
Juniewicz became the third-oldest validated living person in the world after Antonia da Santa Cruz passed away on January 23, 2022, making Juniewicz the last European to be born in 1906 after Valentine Ligny’s death on January 4, 2022. Juniewicz became the last validated person still alive who was born in 1906 after Yoshi Otsunari passed away on January 26, 2022, and the second-oldest validated person still alive after Kane Tanaka passed away on April 19, 2022.

Five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren were born to Tekla Juniewicz. According to TVN24, her younger daughter is 93 years old, while her older daughter passed away in 2016 at the age of 88. It’s interesting to note that Mrs. Tekla’s youngest great-great-grandson was born a year ago on her 115th birthday. Adam, her grandson, had the following to say about her:

Longevity Records of Tekla Juniewicz
The first supercentenarian from Poland’s Silesia Voivodship to be identified is Juniewicz. Jadwiga Szubartowicz, 111, passed away on July 20, 2017, making Juniewicz Poland’s oldest living person. After Frenchwoman Lucile Randon, Juniewicz was the second-oldest alive person in the world whose age is recognized by the GRG.
On April 24, 2018, Juniewicz surpassed Wanda Wierzchleyska’s previous record of 111 years, 317 days to become the oldest person ever recorded in Poland. On June 10, 2018, Juniewicz attained the age of 112 for the first time ever in Polish history. She afterward became the first Pole to turn 113, 114, 115, and 116 years old (in 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022 respectively).
Following the diplomatic action between Poland and Ukraine in 2018, and with the close cooperation of Juniewicz’s family, GRG-Poland Correspondent Waclaw Jan Kroczek’s age validation work was completed.
On May 11, 2020, Juniewicz surpassed Goldie Michelson’s previous record of 113 years, 335 days to become the oldest verified individual ever to be born in modern-day Ukraine.
The oldest verified individual ever to be born in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Juniewicz surpassed Venere Pizzinato-final Papo’s age of 114 years, 252 days on February 18, 2021.
After Yoshi Otsunari passed away on January 26, 2022, Juniewicz became the last validated living person born in 1906.
Juniewicz surpassed Dina Manfredini’s final age of 115 years, 257 days on February 23, 2022, to become the oldest verified immigrant in history.
In June 2022, Juniewicz celebrated her 116th birthday, making her one of only eight validated European supercentenarians to have lived north of the 50th parallel and the first validated supercentenarian to have lived north of that line.
Juniewicz was the sixth-oldest validated European ever, behind Maria Giuseppa Robucci, Lucile Randon, Emma Morano, and Jeanne Bot. She was also the oldest non-French and non-Italian European to ever receive validation.
Tekla Juniewicz passed away early on August 19, 2022, at the age of 116 years, 70 days. She was the final genuine individual who was born in 1906. The oldest known living Pole before her death was Wanda Szajowska from Krakow, Lesser Poland.
Juniewicz is now the 21st-oldest person whose age has ever been verified by the GRG.
