How did Shettima Mustafa die?
Dr. Shettima Mustapha, a former minister of agriculture and defense, passed away in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, on Thursday, November 17, according to the Daily Independent.
His former ministry of defence assistant, who was able to confirm his passing, stated that his body would be flown to the northeast for burial.
Similar to this, the national president of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Arc. Kabir Ibrahim, stated in a statement on Thursday, November 17, that the farmers’ umbrella organisation views his passing as an irreparable loss.

President Muhammadu Buhari shared his condolences for Shettima Mustafa death
Shettima Mustapha, “an great academic, administrator, and politician,” passed away, and President Muhammadu Buhari expressed his sorrow over his passing, adding he left behind an irreplaceable legacy of contributions to national progress.
On Thursday in Abuja, the president expressed his condolences in a telegram distributed by his media assistant, Malam Garba Shehu.
In the administration of President Umaru Yar’Adua, the late Mustapha served as Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources before being named Minister of Defense in 2007. Later, he was appointed Interior Minister.
Buhari praised the late Mustapha as wise, vivacious, and indomitable.
He claimed that the deceased had a strong belief in the strength and capacity of Nigeria and claimed that Shettima had inspired many generations of Nigerians to have a positive view of agriculture.
“Please accept my condolences to his family, the people of Borno State, the government, and all of his admirers.
He continued, “We will never forget him, but we will miss him greatly.”
Dr. Shettima Mustafa political career
Dr. Shettima Mustafa CFR served as agriculture minister from 1990 to 1992 before being named minister of defence in President Umaru Musa Yaradua’s cabinet in 2007.
Later, he was appointed interior minister. When acting president Goodluck Jonathan dissolved the cabinet in March 2010, he resigned from his position.
