According to a statement made by FIU coach Mike MacIntyre on Thursday morning, Luke Knox, a former tight end and linebacker for Ole Miss football who transferred to FIU this offseason, has passed away. He was 22.

Luke Knox, a football player for FIU who played for Mississippi before switching to the Panthers and was the brother of Buffalo Bills tight end Dawson Knox, passed away on Thursday, the university announced.
Luke Knox passed away Wednesday night, according to school officials. Although the institution stated that police do not believe there has been foul play, the cause remains unknown.

Luke Knox cause of death
Knox, a Brentwood, Tennessee native and the younger brother of tight end Dawson Knox of the Buffalo Bills, played for Ole Miss for the previous four seasons before moving to FIU.
Knox, who majored in business, passed on Wednesday night, according to school authorities. Although the institution stated that police do not believe there has been foul play, the cause remains unknown.
Who was Luke Knox?
Knox, a former star at Nashville’s Brentwood Academy, played for Ole Miss from 2018 to 21. Prior to breaking out as a linebacker contributor in 2019, when MacIntyre was the Rebels’ defensive coordinator, he redshirted in 2018 and participated in just one game. As a redshirt freshman, he recorded 10 tackles, including two for loss and two pass breakups. He switched to tight end before the 2021 season, although he only made one tackle and did not accumulate any stats.
Dawson, Knox’s older brother, participated in athletics at Ole Miss from 2016 to 2018. Since then, he has become a top tight end for the Buffalo Bills.

Sean McDermott, the head coach of the Bills, spoke about Knox’s passing on Thursday.
Our thoughts are with Dawson and his family at this difficult time, McDermott said. “He has our full support as we stand by him and his family. Just awful news, really. We adore him and stand by him, so this morning’s news is really sad.”
