Paul Green cause of death
The tragic death of Paul Green at the age of 49 in his Brisbane home on Thursday morning has plunged the rugby league community into sadness.
Green had not mentioned feeling ill prior to his unexpected dying, according to The Daily Telegraph, which conducted a post-mortem to ascertain the cause of his demise.
Who was Paul Green?
Green was a fantastic player who played over 150 games in the top division, seven times for Queensland, and was well-known in the rugby league community.
However, Green is perhaps most recognised for his coaching career, having guided the North Queensland Cowboys to their first championship in 2015.
Green died on Thursday morning, and a post-mortem will be performed soon, according to The Courier Mail.
Green played 95 games for Cronulla before switching to the Cowboys last season, and he was just in Sydney last weekend for the club’s ex-players reunion. Before concluding his playing career at Parramatta and Brisbane, he was also a member of the 2002 Sydney Roosters premiership winning team.
Peter V’landys, the chairman of the Australian Rugby League Commission, expressed his condolences to Green’s friends and family.
Paul Green career
After retiring from playing, he transitioned to coaching, leading the Cowboys to their first-ever championship in 2015 before taking over the Queensland Maroons Origin team.
Green’s biggest accomplishment, among many others in his playing and coaching career, was leading North Queensland to its first Premiership in 2015.
When Green originally became the team’s head coach in 2014, the Cowboys won the first NRL Auckland Nines competition.

North Queensland continued its preseason success during the regular season, placing fifth on the ladder until being shockingly defeated by the Roosters in the semifinals.
The Cowboys won the championship this time around after improving to third place in 2015 and defeating the Broncos in a historic game of golden points.
Even without the great halfback Johnathan Thurston, North Queensland returned to the grand final under Green’s direction in 2017, however Melbourne overwhelmed them.
Thurston disclosed the first conversation he had with Green that resulted in the title victory in 2015 last year.

Tributes to Paul Green
Lewis Ramsay, the chairman of the Cowboys, praised Green and his contributions to the team.

Paul first came to our club as a player in the late 90s and was the club’s first Origin representative, but his lasting legacy emanated from his seven-season tenure as head coach of the North Queensland Cowboys

Paul is one of the greatest contributions in Cowboys history, and we will always remember that.
Before retiring in 2004, Green had a 10-year playing career that included 162 games with the Sharks, Cowboys, Roosters, Eels, and Broncos.
Green, a deft and tenacious halfback, represented the Cowboys in their first-ever Origin game in 1999 after winning the Rothmans Medal in 1995 while playing for Cronulla.
In his second season as head coach, Green led the Cowboys to a premiership in 2014. He continued to serve as the team’s leader, taking over 167 times, and finished with a victory percentage of more than 50%.
Both the Roosters and the Broncos expressed their sorrow after hearing of Green’s loss and sent their sympathies to his family.
