Coroebus, a legendary horse and the 2,000 Guineas champion in May, died on Sunday while competing in France’s Prix du Moulin.
How did 2,000 Guineas winner Coroebus die?

When Charlie Appleby’s star colt lost his footing two furlongs from the finish line in the Group One race at Longchamp, he was right behind the leaders. Due to the severity of his wounds, the horse had to be put to death. William Buick, his jockey, was able to stand up and seemed unharmed.
Coroebus cause of death
A shocking fall at Longchamp caused Classic champion Coroebus to sustain a life-ending injury, sending horse racing into mourning.
After the horrible tragedy, jockey William Buick thankfully recovered well and stood up.

Buick won’t ride the rest of the day, it has been verified.
Sadly, the horse owned by Godolphin did not survive the catastrophic incident that occurred during the Group 1 Prix du Moulin de Longchamp.
Tributes to Coroebus
Social media is flooded with condolences for Coroebus, the winner of the 2000 Guineas under Charlie Appleby.
“Awful news – rest in peace, Coroebus,” one fan said. On his day, an exceptional talent. Our minds are interconnected.
Another wrote: “Coroebus had an awful tumble. thoughts including all ties
“Heartbreaking, RIP Coroebus,” read a third comment.
“Our sympathies are with all at Godolphin after Coroebus sustained a terrible injury at Longchamp,” the supporter wrote.
A second tweet read: “Rest easy. Coroebus. Excellent Horse
Despite the fact that Ed Walker’s Dreamloper won the race, everyone is talking about the awful news of Coroebus’ passing.
With four triumphs in seven Flat turf races, three victories in six stakes races, and four first-place finishes in seven rules races, the legendary three-year-old colt had great success in the sport.
Throughout its glittering career, Coroebus earned Godolphin more than £2 million in prize money.
What happened exactly in the Coroebus accident?
In the Prix du Moulin, Dreamloper gave jockey Kieran Shoemark his second Group 1 victory of 2022, although the event was tragically overshadowed by the passing of 2,000 Guineas champion Coroebus, who fell down in the home straight.
The victor of the Newmarket Classic, who had won the St. James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot, was looking to rebound after losing the Prix Jacques le Marois in Deauville. William Buick held up the Godolphin colt in the middle of the field as he angled his mount out after the two poles. The colt was the early favourite for the Moulin.
The three-year-old, however, slipped and died as a result. While West Wind Blows, who won the Prix du Prince d’Orange under Shoemark, was believed to be in good condition, Buick was forced to forego a subsequent ride.
At that point, Shoemark was ahead of the pack and any danger, and at odds of 17-2, he easily cruised to a five-and-a-half-length triumph.
Buick was able to rise to his feet, but Coroebus, who had won the St. James’s Palace Stakes, was later found to have passed away from his injuries.
Walker give statement to Sky Sports Racing on Coroebus’s death
Walker told Sky Sports Racing, “She (Dreamloper) has just stepped her form up there, back in trip.”
“Fair play to Kieran; we went over together and spoke about the race for nearly four hours until I finally told him to “do your job, do what you’re paid for, and he absolutely nailed it.
She’s not an easy ride, and he’s gotten along really well with her ever since he sat on her in the Sun Chariot, so it wasn’t tactically evident what was going to happen. I believe we are already benefiting from that.
“When she performed poorly in the Pretty Polly, she performed poorly in Nassau, and I really admired her for that. We blamed the ground in Ireland.
“She is a horse who can run eight or nine lengths, and we would want to enter her in the Filly & Mare Breeders’ Cup race. This year’s race is nine and a half furlongs with two turns, but I believe it would be ideal for us.”
Condolences of Appleby and whole team to Coroebus
Appleby paid respect to Coroebus in a statement posted on the Godolphin website.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed and the entire Godolphin team have our sincere condolences. “The entire crew at Moulton Paddocks is terribly grieved by the demise of Coroebus,” he said.
“It is really upsetting to witness such a brilliant horse’s untimely death after giving so much of himself to racing.
“His triumphs in the 2000 Guineas and at Royal Ascot brought great joy to everyone. Most importantly, William Buick left and recovered without incident.
