Basketball player Alessia Maria Raiciu died on her 18th birthday, according to the Romanian Basketball Federation.
The athlete, who was born at CS Olimpia Bucharest, died on the day she turned 18.
Despite her youth, she had already participated in the Feeminin National Basketball League, where she wore the Agronomia Bucharest uniform.

On the official Facebook page of the Romanian Basketball Federation, a farewell message was posted.
However, FRB officials did not provide any additional information about how the tragedy occurred.

Alessia Maria Raiciu was one of the most talented athletes of her generation, having won several medals in junior competitions with CS Olimpia Bucharest and having made the transition to the National Women’s Basketball League at a young age, appearing in the jersey of the Agronomia Bucharest team.

The Romanian Basketball Federation issued the following statement following the death of the young basketball player: “The flight of a basketball player with real perspective was cut short far too soon… One of the most talented athletes of the 2004 generation has passed away. Alessia Maria Raiciu died on her 18th birthday.
The young lady had won numerous national junior championship medals with CS Olimpia Bucharest and had a biphasic presence in the National Women’s Basketball League with Agronomia Bucharest. The Romanian Basketball Federation extends heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family! “Rest in Peace, Alessia!” the Romanian Basketball Federation announced on Facebook.
Messages of condolence continue to pour in on the Federation’s page, and many of them contain the same words: “too soon.” Alessia’s family, as well as casual fans of the sport, are shocked by her death. Nothing could have predicted such a tragedy.
