E411 highway in Wavre closed: Fire that broke out along the highway, What happened? Explained

For more than an hour, the E411 has been blocked off to traffic. The fire that started beside the highway was the cause.

A major brush fire broke out along the E411 highway

We learnt from the rescue zone of Walloon Brabant and the federal police that numerous firefighters and police had been mobilised since early Sunday afternoon on the E411 motorway in Wavre, where a vehicle fire spread to the brush along the route.

On Sunday in the early afternoon, a significant brush fire began to spread along the E411 roadway. The E411 and the N25 had to be closed to traffic as a result of the smoke emission. Wavre-level disruption is present.

Large traffic snarls developed in both directions. Belgian emergency services request that drivers stay away from the area and give emergency vehicles room to move. According to our colleagues at RTL Belgium, a car also caught fire nearby.

Be patient if you are caught in one of these bottlenecks; the rescue workers will direct you. The N25 is also closed, so all other motorists will need to find a another route to get there safely.

Firefighters and police are present.

As the brush fire progressed, firefighters were also faced with protecting homes situated between the Futaie and Buissons lanes, between the E411 and the Chaussée de Namur.

Traffic is at a standstill for several kilometres

There is a long stretch of stopped traffic. If you are on the E411 you must exit before exit 8.

To travel to Brussels, the police advises taking the E42 through Liège or Mons.

The nearby roadways are becoming increasingly congested (N25 among others).

PLEASE NOTE that drivers are now only using the right lane when travelling in the other direction (towards Namur). The N4 should be joined by exiting at Corroy-le-Grand 9, according to the police. Or use Mons or Liège as a stopover en route to the capital.
