Former MediaCorp News CEO Woon Tai Ho praised Teo on Facebook and referred to her as a “media wiz.” She was “a true Renaissance woman, creative in many other ways, and also a skilled pianist,” he wrote.
He described how he first learned about her. “A small group of us were asked to view the pilot episode of the first local sitcom, Under One Roof, in 1994 by Lee Cheok Yew, CEO of TCS (Television Corporation of Singapore).
When I realized I was laughing out loud in Bishan with Tan Ah Teck and his family, I also realized we were laughing at ourselves. The humor did not come out as forced, and the English were not offensive.
I was relieved that someone had finally figured out how to make me feel at ease watching local TV and humor. I can still picture Cheok Yew turning to me and saying, “This is good.” It wasn’t simply fantastic, though; TV history was created.”
